As part of the deliberate policy and efforts at enhancing accessibility, the Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior- led Ika South Local Government, has begun the rehabilitation of some major roads in the Boji Boji metropolis.
The roads, which had been at different stages of dilapidation, are currently receiving attention from the local government.
The repair work which has reached an advanced level, has elicited excitement and commendation of residents and people of Ika South both home and in the diaspora.
The first phase of the rehabilitation project, involving stone base preparation is currently underway, and would be followed immediately with asphalt laying, to ensure durability and smooth movement by motorists, commercial motorcyclists and other road users.
The intervention, which reflects the commitment of Engr. Ehiwarior to the sustainable infrastructure development, improved accessibility, and ease of movement for residents, motorists, and the business community within the local government area, covers such roads as; the Old Lagos/Asaba Road by Freshmart Supermarket, and Imudia Street, which had been ravaged by erosion water.
Some residents who spoke to newsmen expressed joy over the move, saying that the poor state of the roads had been of serious concern, and had impacted negatively on smooth movements and business of residents.
They commended the Local Government Chairman for the bold initiative, and urged him not to relent in ensuring that Ika South becomes a model and reference point to responsible and accountable governance.
Mr. Monday Eluehike, Mr. Jerome Ojebor and Madam Agnes Ejime, amongst some of the residents who spoke to journalists, said Ika South under the leadership of Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, had experienced a tremendous positive leap especially in the areas of infrastructure and human capital development.
They applauded the Chairman for his proactive disposition to good governance and accountability, which they observed have had positive impacts on the daily lives of the people.
They, however, pleaded with the chairman to intensify effort in tackling the menace of indiscriminate dumping of refuse and other wastes in waterways and drainages by residents, noting that such actions were major contributory factors to eroding and damages to roads in the locality.
